Conclusion

Of the male students that we surveyed, 71% of them claimed they have smoked a cigarette in their life.  The other 29% claimed they have not.  The majority of the 71% say they have only tried it once.  94% of the same students claimed they have illegally drank alcohol.  Only 6% of the students have not.  34% of the students who have drank alcohol illegally only do it on a monthly basis.  When we asked the same students about their pot use, the numbers became closer to 50/50, favoring the yes to smoking pot.  58% of these students say they have smoked pot before while the 42% have not.  50% of the students who have smoked pot before, say they smoke it on a monthly basis.

Of the female students that we surveyed, 52% of them claimed they have smoked a cigarette in their life.  The other 48% claimed they have not.  Surprisingly, the majority of the 52% say that they smoke cigarettes more than three times a week or only once a month.  77% of the same students claimed that they have drank alcohol illegally at least once in their life.  23% of the females claimed that they have never drank alcohol.  The majority of the 77% of females that drink alcohol, consume it once a week.  When we asked the same group of females about their illegal use of marijuana, only 39% of them said that they have.   The other 61% claimed that they have not smoked pot.  Of those 39%,  66% of them said that they have only smoked pot once or they smoke it once a month.

We learned a great deal from this project.  By using on-line surveys, we were able to get a clear and accurate measurement of how many students are using drugs in this High School.  We specifically liked this project, because in the process we learned how to make a web page and how to conduct a controlled experiment successfully.
